Welcome to Your Virtual Tour

On July 1st, 2022 a brand new home built to house 56 homeless and orphaned children from Kalehe was opened. The children who now call this place home are the youngest and most vulnerable from the streets.

Here is a look at the outside, front door and bedrooms of the new building. Reliable electricity is not prevalent in Kalehe, so it is noteworthy to see how the solar panels provide for indoor and outdoor safety lighting at night; and bonus… a television! Clean water is collected in a tower built on the compound, and pumped in for showers and sinks. There is also a clean underground well on site for water. The older children used to walk over a mile to gather clean water for the home in town where they lived prior to moving here, and now it is only a few steps away!

Work has begun to have stone paths to the outer buildings (outer buildings include an outdoor kitchen, outdoor meeting space, and outdoor toilets) and grass and vegetable gardens planted between those paths to help provide food and recreation areas for the children. When a fence is built on the property, chickens and goats can be added to help provide eggs, and milk. The children will be able to learn how to plant and farm the gardens as well as how to take care of the animals.

The children come in through the doors to see their bedroom for the first time. Girls have a dorm room together and the boys have their own dorm room. House mom, Deborah, has a room near the girls, and House Dad, Esproir has his own room near the boys incase anyone needs help at night too. The children are so excited to have their own brand new beds, with new sheets and blankets given specifically for them. They wanted to say thank you…some translation help is given below.

A little French and Swahili translation help here…. First is Elizabeth saying, “Thank you to Papa Christophe and everyone who helped to build their new home; I am so grateful”. Next is Binja saying, “Thank you so much to Papa Christophe and everyone for real beds and mattresses”. And last in the girls’ dorm is Ashuza saying, “I am so happy and thankful because all of her sisters and brothers are sleeping well, like people who live in big towns and cities. May God bless all who helped make this happen”.

From the boys room: Jannier says, “Thank you for the bedsheets and mattresses they are so comfortable”. And last in this video is Clovis, and he says “I never believed that this could happen to me, but now it has happened, all Glory to God”.

Outdoor Meeting Space

The outdoor meeting space was not complete July 1, but is now open for studying, playing, tutoring, & outdoor eating.

Solar panels provide electricity including outside lighting for safety.

This is the outdoor kitchen building. Perfect for cooking rice and beans when it is too hot to cook inside.

Josue is sending you peace and love from Kalehe.

Check out the recent Updates from Kalehe Post where some of our kids talk about what they want to be when they grow up. This hope and future thinking was not part of their mindset just 18 months ago. Daily survival was the only thing that mattered. Please see these smiles and future dreams as the hope you have provided. It is amazing what God can do with a group of people coming together to help those in need.

Asante. Merci. Thank you.
