Homework & Housework

Since our last post, the children have been in school for almost two months, (in shelter for three months) and they are really beginning to come together and shine. As you will see in the pictures, one of our friends in Kalehe donated 30 plastic green chairs for the children to use. This has been such a blessing when doing homework together with the volunteer tutors that have come to help. You see the children all working together around a large chalk board that was also donated for them to use. All of our children had to drop out of school when they were orphaned and became homeless. Some were out of school for months, some for many years, so most have catching up to do. The older children help the younger ones with their studies, which allows time for the tutors to also help the older children succeed in classes.

Because of your generous support, the children have the ability to seek medical attention when they need it. Of course, when living in close quarters, almost all of the children came down with a contagious skin rash that required prescription medication to heal it completely. You see them here below, waiting to see the physicians, and getting the necessary meds they need. Thank you so much for making this a possibility for them. Without you, this skin ailment would go untreated and could lead to further, more serious infections.

To the left, you see the children taking turns helping with the housework. When you have 27 children living under one roof and and only one house mom to take care of basic needs, everyone has to chip in and help! You see them sweeping, bringing clean water over to help with laundry, and cleaning up the dishes from dinner. Their house mother, Deborah, is shown doing all of their laundry, especially their school uniforms that need to be worn everyday. With 27 children, that is a lot of laundry! Thank you Deborah!
